Welcome to Castleford Tigers Heritage website!

Welcome to Castleford Tigers Heritage website, going live 1 January 2026!
Castleford Tigers reach our centenary in 2026 when we celebrate 100 years as a top flight rugby league club!

The Castleford Tigers Heritage project in 2017 was started after funding from a Heritage Lottery grant, which came about through people’s concern that as the Club looked towards a new purpose-built stadium, some of the history and heritage of Wheldon Road may be lost.

When the project was completed the focus was lost to some extent, until 2024 when a group was set up again to help and ensure the forthcoming 100th anniversary of the club was properly acknowledged. We have worked with the club and intend to continue operating together to produce a full history and archive of Castleford RLFC/Castleford Tigers.

This website is the first step and will become a live home for a continuing story full of everything about the club. Keep visiting us via the Tiger’s website heritage tab as we expand on the rich history of the Castleford club, which has always been a flagship for the town and a focus for local pride and camaraderie.

Initially we will have full club statistics thanks to the Garbett Family, who have been recording them since 1926 when it entered the Northern Rugby Football League. Len Garbett, who was a key figure in the Club’s history began recording a comprehensive record of all players, teams, matches and scorers for the Castleford Rugby League Club, well over 1200 individuals who have played first team rugby for the Club since it entered the League in 1926. Other volunteers have also taken on recording tasks and will be acknowledged around the website as more information and articles are added over time.

For now though, you came here to read about events that happened this week over the last 100 years. It is in our feature entitled That Was The Week That Was so click on the “TWTWTW” link and enjoy.
