Season Summary
1990/91

From the start of this season the official nickname of the club changed from the Glassblowers to the Tigers.
Castleford certainly showed their claws as they went right through to the Yorkshire Cup final, to win it by beating Wakefield 11–8 in front of 12,420 at Elland Road.
Unfortunately, none of the other cups brought much success. Most galling was a 14–19 defeat at home to bottom club Rochdale in the Regal Trophy when shortly after Castleford beat them 42–0 and 76–12. The latter was actually a first division record for an away win. (A record away win feat repeated against the same opponents in 2007)
Castleford were again suffering the wrath of the RL Management, when in November they were fined £500 plus £2000 compensation after arriving 50 minutes late at Widnes for a televised match. The 4–46 defeat merely rubbed salt in the wound.
The club again had a match against the Australian tourists but lost 8–28 to them, their solitary defeat all tour being in a test match.
Castleford had tried to address their inconsistency, but early-season was hit and miss. In a reversal of previous seasons, the best form was in the second half of the season. 10 games and only 1 defeat after New Year's Day pushed the team to head the table for a short time in March but 4 defeats in the last 5 games brought the season to an end on a low note. To sour the taste even further, Castleford lost at home in the play-offs 20–24 to Leeds, who scored the winner in the last minute and thus ended Castleford's season, leaving the disappointment to linger all close season.
The league record was P26, W17, D0, L9 to finish 4th from 14. 36 matches were played in total and 26 players were used. Graham Steadman repeated his exploits of last season by scoring 3 hat tricks, but David Plange was the only other player to follow him. In a season of generally falling attendances, Castleford's average went down by 409 to 6019.
In transfer speculation, Castleford had been linked with French international centre David Fraisse but nothing concrete happened.
On the awards front Castleford won the Stones Bitter Team of the Month award in January.
In the Alliance, Castleford finished third in the first division for the second season running, and made it to the final of the Alliance Challenge Cup, but lost to Bradford Northern 4–25.
