Season Summary
1992/93

Although retired, John Joyner had stayed at the club, as he became Alliance team coach, taking over from Mick Morgan who moved into the promotions side of the club. Long-standing player Keith England was enjoying a benefit in the new season.
A new rule change saw a 10 metre divide at the play the ball instead of 5 metres, introduced without any previous warning or knowledge of many clubs. However, it proved popular and sped play up so was later accepted universally.
Castleford's first game of the season was a 10–16 defeat to Bradford Northern in the Yorkshire Cup preliminary round. Thus ended the club's glorious record in the competition over the previous few years, and it became a sad way to bring the curtain down as the Yorkshire Cup was abolished to save fixture congestion shortly after following a vote of clubs. The fact that the preliminary round match was between last season's finalists is one for debate about seeding clubs.
The club had a good mid season run of eight consecutive wins but stumbled a little afterwards with small clusters of consecutive defeats and wins. Within these results Castleford beat Wigan 26–17 in April and opened up the championship race to run until the final day of the season, when ironically it was closed as Wigan reversed the outcome 18-25 to win the league.
Castleford reached the Regal Trophy semi-finals before losing 12–19 at Bradford Northern. Along the way, they gave a trial to South African winger Jamie Bloem, who came on as substitute at Carlisle and scored a try. However, he was released and did not play for Castleford again, although he forged a career with Oldham, Doncaster and Halifax.
Progress was made to the semi-final stage of the Premiership play-offs as the Bradford Regal Trophy defeat was avenged along the way, but an 8-25 defeat at Wigan ended further hopes.
The league showed P26 W14 D1 L11 to finish 6th from 14. 36 matches were played in total and 30 players used. For the second year running, Lee Crooks topped 100 goals, kicking 112 to beat his last year's performance by one. Richie Blackmore was the only hat trick player in the season. Average attendance fell by 807 to 5658, although this was in line with a general trend at other clubs. Dean Williams became the 700th player to play for Castleford when he came on as substitute in his only game for the club.
In the Alliance, Castleford improved on previous years and finished second in the first division but unfortunately made no impact on the cups. The Academy team, to use the words of a match programme, had a “very thin time” as they finished eighth from eight in the first division.
Coach Darryl Van de Velde announced he would leave to become chief executive at new Australian club Queensland Crushers. A few weeks later, assistant coach John Joyner was named as replacement along with Allan Agar, after other names such as Steve Simms had been considered.
In transfer speculation, Castleford offered two players for Leigh full-back Paul Topping without success. Before the season started many rumours of new players had done the rounds including Paul Newlove, Ian Smales, Garry Schofield, Lee Jackson and Chris Joynt. As usual with rumours some happen and many don't.
In recognition, Castleford were Stones Bitter team of the month in November and Mike Ford won the Sunday Mirror Entertainer award for the same period.
